Now that the Tesla Cybertruck is out, we can finally put aside speculative comparisons. Instead, it’s time to witness the real-world performance comparisons! The new Tesla recently won a drag race with a Porsche 911 while towing another 911. Now, in another face-off, the Cybertruck goes drag racing with the GMC Hummer EV. This drag race took place on what looks like a test strip in Tesla’s Gigafactory in Austin, Texas.

Tesla Cybertruck vs GMC Hummer EV Drag Race
While the Tesla Cybertruck’s race with the Porsche was a part of the carmaker’s product presentation, the latest drag race was conducted by an auto hack of decent repute. Mat Watson from Carwow tested the much-anticipated Cybertruck and even participated in an acceleration showdown with the GMC Hummer. Both vehicles in this race were the top-tier versions. What this means is both the vehicles you see in the video below have three electric motors each. Also, it’s worth noting that these are among the heaviest vehicles available. The Cybertruck tips the scales at 6,843 pounds (3,104 kilograms) and the Hummer weighs a whopping 9,061 lbs (4,110 kg).
The Hummer faced defeat in all drag races and subsequent rolling races against the Cyberbeast. Initially, the Tesla ute had firmware for the dual-motor variant, restricting its top speed to 112 mph (180 km/h). However, an update unleashed the full 130 mph (209 km/h) potential of the tri-motor model. It’s essential to note that this Cybertruck is a pre-production prototype. However, Tesla assures that the customers’ vehicles will deliver the same performance.
Hummer EV Wins Braking Test: The GMC did secure a victory in one competition. It won the brake test from 70 mph (113 km/h) to a complete stop. This, despite its considerable weight disadvantage. This result is quite unexpected, especially considering the weight difference. Since this is a prototype, it’s possible that the Cyberbeast’s brakes were not in optimal condition. This is, frankly, the only plausible explanation we can think of.

Author’s Note
Even with some of the most powerful ICEs out there, these two truck won’t be as quick due to their heft. This is exactly where the instant torque of electric motors comes into play. It’s only the electric propulsion that can offer such neck-snapping acceleration on these two mammoth trucks. The Cyberbeast impressively boasts 686 lb-ft (930 Nm), while the Hummer goes even further with a colossal 1,095 lb-ft (1,485 Nm). Although the Tesla Cybertruck has fewer horsepower (845 hp compared to 1,014 hp), its significantly lower curb weight compensates for this difference, highlighting the efficiency of electric power in delivering quick acceleration.
