Surprisingly, this is not the first time a Tesla official has left the company to join the rival Rivian.
The supply chain Lead at Tesla responsible for Cybertruck and other Tesla products quits and joins Rivian. Note that Rivian is a direct competitor to Tesla when considering electric pickup trucks. Also, it is taking the customers away from the legacy carmakers like Ford and Chevrolet on the back of their impressive and capable electric trucks. This might again delay the launch of the Cybertruck further. It looks like we won’t have a glimpse of the anticipated futuristic electric truck from Tesla for another year, at least. Tesla Supply Chain Lead Quits
Mustapha El Akkari was serving as the Tesla Group Manager for Raw Materials which is a crucial aspect of supply chain management. He had been at Tesla for four and a half years and was responsible for many Tesla cars including the much-awaited Cybertruck. But he has left the company and joined Rivian where he will work as a Senior Director of Structures and Raw Materials. At Tesla, he was responsible for managing around $16 billion worth of raw materials. That explains just how huge his role was at the company.

This is not the first time a top Tesla employee has quit to join the rival car marque. Prior to this, Charly Mwangi had also quit Tesla and joined Rivian. Charly was at Tesla for more than six years as Senior Director of Engineering. Apart from that, there is also Nick Kalayjian who served in the position of Vice President of Engineering for more than a decade. He also made his move to Rivian where he currently serves as Chief Product Development Officer.

Tesla Cybertruck made its debut back in 2019. It got the attention of everyone including the potential buyers and critics. However, it has failed to meet the deadlines for the launch on many occasions. In fact, the launch of the Cybertruck has become meme material because we still don’t have a clear idea about when we will be able to witness it in the flesh.
