Tesla keeps offering high-tech features on its vehicles and this is a real-life instance of the owner using it.
In this video, a Tesla EV owner decides to test the Smart Summon feature. Essentially, it allows the owners to summon the car over and it would ideally get itself out of the parking spot and come to the owner. While it may sound perfect in theory, but does the reality match it? Elon Musk is an enthusiast when it comes to adopting new-age technology to make our lives easier. He has been experimenting with autonomous driving for quite some time now. Tesla cars come equipped with tons of hardware to allow autonomous driving while the software is constantly being updated.

Tesla Smart Summon Feature
The video has been uploaded by POGAuto on YouTube. The YouTuber owns a Tesla Model X. He finds himself in the parking lot of a mall. He decides to use this feature to call the EV to him. He is standing near the car to keep track of its movements. As soon as he turns on the function from his smartphone, the Tesla comes to life and starts pulling itself out of the parking spot quite cleanly. Within a few seconds, it is able to reach the exact point where the owner asked it to. On its way, it also took care of the oncoming traffic as well.

On the second occasion, the man called it again from its parking spot. However, this time around, the car stopped mid-way for some reason. This ended up creating a traffic jam as the EV refused to move. The owner had to intervene manually. In the third instance, it was able to do what it was supposed to but it drove in the wrong lane for a short while. Overall, the driver was impressed by its manoeuvrability in tight spaces. But he admits that one can’t entirely rely on this system. He is sure that Tesla will make many modifications to this software in times to come so that it could become flawless.

What We Think
We know how ambitious Tesla is when it comes to incorporating new technologies in its EVs. At its core, the largest EV company in the world wants to leverage technology to make the lives of its customers easy. But it is also true that it will take a lot of time for people to completely rely on such features. We come across many instances of electronics malfunctioning causing accidents or worse. Hence, mass adoption will take some time. In the meanwhile, companies could focus on working more on the softwares and making them almost perfect. That will instil a lot of confidence in the potential EV buyers on the future.
