EV owners in the USA are facing a massive challenge with their cars due to extremely low temperature. We know that Lithium-ion batteries used in electric cars are temperature-dependent. Its performance, output and behaviour change with changes in weather conditions. At the moment, the climatic conditions in many parts of North America are extreme. Temperatures are significantly lower than 0 degrees. For instance, this news report comes from Chicago, where the temperatures are hovering around -6 to -12 degrees Celsius.

EV Owners Struggle Due to Extremely Low Temperature
This news report emerges from the official NBC Chicago channel on YouTube. It includes the interviews of the EV owners. They are clearly in a distressed condition. Due to extreme cold, the batteries drain faster. As a result, they are left with no option but to tow their vehicles to the charging stations. The sudden influx at the charging station resulted in long queues to reach the chargers. What’s even more disappointing was the fact that depending on how low the temperatures were, it took an even longer time charge the battery. Hence, the EV owners first had to wait for hours to get to the charger, and then wait a lot more to actually charge the car despite using fast chargers.

That was the sentiment shared by a lot of other electric car owners waiting for their chance to juice up the batteries of their cars at the charging station. Another incredibly irritating aspect was that once the batteries were dead, the vehicle had to be towed to the station. But while they were waiting there, even the last few meters were impossible to reach due to no juice in the battery whatsoever. Hence, the challenges were endless.
