Elon Musk might borrow a page from the book of Ferrari for the Cybertruck. While the initial reaction from the media and customers has been quite impressive, it remains to be seen how the largest EV maker on the planet will be able to meet the demand. Tesla famously claimed to have received 1 million bookings of the Cybertruck. As a result, a report by Business Insider suggests that Tesla might adopt the technique of Ferrari where they create a scarcity of supply. Hence, people will remain attracted to the Cybertruck. In doing so, the American EV giant will also work on ensuring that there are no production issues. If the demand goes up and the production capacity is not able to cope, the fact that Cybertruck will carry the image of a rare car will keep the buyers interested. Ideally, they won’t decide to opt for the rival. We shall have to see if this strategy could work or not.

Now, the report also gives the example of the Apple iPhone X. At the time, there was a huge price increase from the previous model. To justify its worth, the tech giant created a, sort of, supply shortage to make people think that they will miss out on something truly remarkable. Hence, even though the price was high, people bought the iPhone in high numbers. Tesla might have to do something similar to ensure high demand. Meanwhile, it could keep manufacturing its other mass-market products to keep the revenues and profits flowing.
